C'est l'ete!

It's summertime! (well it feels like it)
Il fait tellement chaud, c'est l'ete qui commence!

Hmmm, Evan n'a pas l'air d'etre tres content...
Hmmm, Evan doesn't seem too happy...
Mais 2 secondes apres ca va mieux...(si vous ne me croyez pas que c'etait 2 secondes apres, regardez bien la larme dans l'oeil droit)
But 2 seconds later he's better...(if you don't believe that it was really 2 seconds after, look closely at the tear his right eye)Avec ces larmes, c'est bien que son mascara est water-proof...
With those tears, it's good his mascara is waterproof...
Un peu de piscine...
A little pooltime...

For those of you who don't know, still no teeth for this little guy! He weighs more than 20 lbs, and it seems like he's going to start walking soon. He is usually happy--if we go out he smiles at everyone. At home, though, he wants to be held all the time. That's okay, he has a few fake cries accompanied by crocodile tears but he stops when he realizes that it isn't too horrible to sit by himself with his toys.

Baby Vocabulary

Things change when you have a baby, including your vocabulary. Words that used to have one meaning when you're a student, or single, or childless suddenly take on whole new meanings...

"nipple" is a bottle part, not a body part
"crib sheet" refers to bedding, not a way to cheat on a test
"naptime" no longer refers to your OWN nap
"bouncer" is not the guy at the entrance of a bar, but a baby-holding contraption
"mobile" refers to the dangling toys, not your cell phone
"glider" is not an unpowered aircraft, but a human-powered chair
"wipe" is a noun, not a verb
"einstein" is used only with "baby" in front of it, not with "albert"
"rocker" is not a rock musician, but something to help put the baby to sleep
"monitor" no longer refers only to your computer screen but to the device transmitting your baby's cries
"bootie" is spelled "bootie" instead of "booty"
"pump" is not for pumping iron but rather pumping breasts
"changing room" becomes "changing table"--from trying on clothes in a mall to changing dirty diapers
"burp" is something to be cheered for, not sneered after
"formula" is not a mathematical equation, but a stinky milky liquid

There are also products for everything a baby can do:
sleepers
walkers
rockers
creepers
strollers
carriers
bouncers
sitters
hmmm...how come there are no droolers and screechers and babblers?

Anyway, just some random thoughts on parenthood by a linguist...

G: hmm, let's flip for it. head is yes, tail is no.
B: oh no! it's tail! that's not fair... let's chmod for a second.
G: it is fair! it's in the basic pwd of betting...but i guess we can dance this one song...
B: nice!
G: it's just a dance, don't think you're going to ls my files!
B: i don't need to ls you, i've already got you wc'ed!
G: haha! don't you just think YOU'RE the emacs-daddy...
B: hey, could you pipe me your digits?
G: uh, i don't think so--i'm killing this process!

Now if you get any of this, CONGRATULATIONS!!! that means you're a nerd, too.

Le bibi occupe

A l'ordi...
At the computer...
Sur le lit...
On the bed...
Sur les epaules de Papa...
On Daddy's shoulders...
Une promenade matinale dans la piscine... (quoi de plus normal que ca?)
A morning walk in the pool.. (what's more normal than that?)

Bye-bye Plaster, hello Pebble!

We are redoing the pool. Jean-Robert is the manager of this project, and it is stressing him out bigtime. Every morning he jumps out of bed to look at the giant hole that was his pool. His beloved pool. And every day he asks me "so? what do you think of the pool?" I admit, I am not stressed at all--I know it's going to be beautiful. Here are some photos of the transformation...

On vide la piscine:
The pool is emptied:

Nina ne comprend pas:
Nina is so confused:

The attack of the jackhammers:
L'attaque des marteau-piqueurs:

Et puis les carreaux:
And then the tiles:
Les travailleurs, samedi matin:
The workers, Saturday morning:
Aaah, ca va mieux...
Aaaa, that's better...
